6th Grade Sunday School–PARENT’S HOMEPAGE and Current Lesson
LEARNING ABOUT GOD Sunday School
LEARNING ABOUT WHO GOD IS and WHAT HE HAS DONE FOLLOWING THE DIVINELY REVEALED PLAN IN SCRIPTURE. Using “Firm Foundations–Creation to Christ”, Children’s Version of the Chronological Bible Teaching from New Tribes Mission– http://www.ntm.org/ or http://www.ntmbooks.com/

With joy and thanksgiving we dedicate the 3rd-6th Sunday School teaching to our Lord Jesus Christ and to His Church… with believing prayer that He will use His Word for His glory.
God has given parents the incredible responsibility of impressing a love for God on the hearts of their children (Deut. 6:5–7). God’s Word shows us that these impressions best occur as a natural overflow from the lives of parents who are seeking to love the Lord with all their hearts, souls, and strength. It also shows us that the Church has the opportunity and the responsibility to support families as it fulfills the mandate in Ephesians 4… which states that the role of the church is “to equip the saints for the work of the Lord.”
Therefore, this page is for parents who: (1) Want to know and review what is being taught in their children’s Sunday School (we like to call it “Learning About God” school) (2) Wish to teach the portion of the lesson taught when their child wasn’t able to attend. (3) Hope and desire to create a holistic approach to spiritual formation… uniting what children learn in the home and what they learn at church so that each setting reinforces what was experienced in the other.

Your child’s Handbook is for studying the lesson on their own… completing each weeks pages, memorization verses, Review Questions, and filling out each weeks Scorecard. LESSON 38 INTRODUCTION
OVERVIEW This lesson presents Jesus as Almighty God, able to calm the storm with a word, able to completely make whole a man who was hopelessly demon-possessed. It also stresses man’s absolute inability to free himself from Satan and sin.
LESSON GOALS FOR YOUR CHILD: • To show that Jesus is God. • To show that no one can deliver themself from sin, Satan, and death. • To show that Jesus Christ is stronger than Satan and can deliver them from Satan’s power. THIS LESSON SHOULD HELP YOUR CHILD: • To see that because Jesus is God… that He has power over all things. • To see that Jesus cares about people in hopeless situations. • To see that Jesus alone can save them.
PERSPECTIVE FOR PARENTS: Many people today are much the same as the man of Gadara… totally incapacitated by Satan. Rehabilitation centers and prisons are full of men and women who have given up on ever living a normal life. Social agencies spend millions of dollars, often dealing with the same people year after year with little or no change wrought in lives. Grim, nameless statistics list increasing numbers of suicides. But Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever! He is still transforming hopeless, useless, destructive, antisocial, suicidal outcasts into His own dear children. These are not people who have simply been taught new ways of thinking, but men and women who have been reborn to a living hope in Christ. They are useful, productive, caring individuals with a firm, biblical understanding of their eternal destiny and a burning desire to spend the rest of their lives here telling others about this wonderful One who saved them!
Is it worthwhile to teach this lesson about a “wild man who lived out in the caves”? Think about it. Some of your students may have one or more family members – father, mother, brother, sister – who are deeply involved in drugs or even contemplating suicide. Society has no lasting help or solutions for people like this. All men can offer is a “repair job” on the old, ruined man. Jesus Christ offers new life and the power to live it for His glory! He is stronger than the Enemy, and He cares enough to deliver the most wretched man from Satan’s grasp. Our Lord still delights to deliver men and women and make them new and complete in Christ. What a mighty God we serve and what an opportunity this story gives us to teach His greatness to the
